Our Funders
Wealden Wheels is supported primarily by the Parish Councils of Challock, Charing, Egerton, Pluckley and Smarden villages, with Chilham Parish Council joining more recently.
A Countryside Agency Survey of Transport in our area of Kent in 2002 revealed a real transport need for many in our Community. As a result of this Kent Rural Community Council (now Action for Communities in Rural Kent) provided significant help to our villages during 2003 and helped us secure funding for our first vehicle as well as for a part time coordinator.
We started operations in 2004 with a 9 seater MPV. In the 5 years since then demand from our villages has grown significantly and, with the link to East Kent Strokes, we now run 3 vehicles to meet this local need.
During these first 5 years, our operations have been supported by European Community Funds (from the Mid-Kent Leader+ programme). Today we are grateful for the operational support that Kent County Council has provided to us.
We are also grateful to everyone who has supported the setting up and running of our operation, including our current members, our growing team of much-valued volunteers and the organisations shown below who have helped us with grants or benefits in kind. Without such financial and other support, we would be unable to continue to offer this valued local transport service.
